THE TIME IS ALWAYS NOW

There is no such thing as “ready” - there is only “ready enough” and you are beyond ready enough.

Stop acting as if you don’t have all the information you need to step into the highest version of you Now. Stop putting it off until some undefined future.

Stop thinking you’re not ready. Whether it’s to leave that bad situation you’re in, to FULLY SHOW UP at work, to share that vulnerable post, or finally try going vegan - 21 day vegan challenge link in my bio if you’re interested.

Regardless of what it is, it’s important to know that (from a neurobiological perspective) you will never be ready.

There is no such thing as “ready” - there is only “ready enough” and you are beyond ready enough. 🌱👽

Let’s practice the kindness we say we want to see in the world. Because the way we talk and think about others is always a reflection of the way we talk and think about ourselves.

WHITE PRIVILEGE

Our fellow humans walk this earth with experiences that most of us know nothing about. A dialogue about anything - whether we agree with the other’s point of view or not - does not have to threaten us

As a mental health therapist, the more global reason I was inspired to talk about this is summarized in the last video.

Here are the bullet points:

1. White privilege isn’t like the tooth fairy, it’s not a matter of whether you “choose to” believe in it or not

2. White privilege doesn’t mean that you are wrong, bad, or necessarily racist just because you are white. It’s not about the wrongdoings of any one specific individual

3. White privilege does not necessarily mean that you have the socioeconomic benefits we tend to associate with the word privilege. I think this one is especially challenging for us as Americans to accept because we are much more comfortable talking about class in this country than we are talking about race, at least compared to people in other parts of the world in my experience. And yes, there’s a correlation but they are still two different demographic variables

4. Last but not least, the subject of white privilege - like all important issues in our world - is part of a bigger conversation about the human experience. It’s about how painful it is to take our blinders off and actually see things that we previously knew nothing (or very little) about

Without some level of self-awareness, our default is to be outraged at the person sharing the message (vocal vegans and activists of all kinds should know a lot about this) because it’s sooo much easier to point the finger and try to silence the messenger than it is to look at ourselves

Additional thoughts:

Our fellow humans walk this earth with experiences that most of us know nothing about. A dialogue about anything - whether we agree with the other’s point of view or not - does not have to threaten us

But - if & when it does, the answer is not to continue looking outwards, but to look at ourselves and where we still have healing to do

With the right mindset, intentions, and conversations, we are much stronger together than we ever could be apart

HEAL

DON'T GIVE INTO THE TEMPTATION TO RECONNECT WITH THAT PERSON FROM YOUR PAST WHO YOU ALREADY KNOW ISN'T RIGHT FOR YOU.

It will only satisfy you temporarily, right before it leaves you feeling worse than you did before. You already know this.

Absolutely no relationship will ever give you the satisfaction you’re craving if you’re not already relatively satisfied with yourself.

This is why most relationships don’t work. It’s not just the relationships that have to heal, but the people who get into them.

You were meant for so much more.

WHY WE SHAME EACH OTHER

THE SHORT ANSWER IS BECAUSE WE SHAME OURSELVES.

Despite the abundance of self-help and feel good memes at our fingertips these days, on a neurobiological level, your brain is still wired to tell you that you’re never gonna get it quite right.

That you’re never gonna be exactly the way you’re “supposed to” be. That there will always be somebody doing it better.

It’s the voice that rears her ugly head the moment you go to publish that vulnerable post, or post that racy photo. Even posting this is slightly uncomfortable for me. It’s the voice that says: “Who do you think you are? Your message isn’t THAT important. You’re not pretty enough to post that. You haven’t gone through enough (or if that’s not true for you) you’ve gone through WAY too much. You’re too “broken” to help anyone. Nobody will listen. What if they don’t like you. Better to stay quiet. You know you won’t be able to handle the criticism. Haven’t you taken up enough space in the world already. Haven’t you caused enough problems. Maybe you’re past your prime. You’re never going to get it right anyway. Maybe it’s time to be more realistic. Maybe mom and dad were right after all . . .” You guys get the picture. The list literally goes on ad infinitum.

If it’s one thing I’ve learned over all these years it’s that the voice doesn’t just go away on its own. You have to actually do the thing you’re afraid of doing. You have to say the thing you’re afraid to say. You have to share the vulnerability.

Basically, you have to take the risk. EVEN THOUGH IT’S SCARY. You have to let that critical voice momentarily take a backseat. And eventually fade into the background of your life.

You have to know that you’re enough. No matter what anyone else says or does. Because you ARE enough. Just as you are. And understand that that voice is there to keep you “safe” — it doesn’t care if you’re happy — so it’s our job to re-educate the voice.

And you know what really helps!? The feeling of safety with the people we’re around. So I say let’s start by being nicer to each other on online, on social media.

Let’s practice the kindness we say we want to see in the world. Because the way we talk and think about others is always a reflection of the way we talk and think about ourselves.

WHY I CARE

WHY I CARE ABOUT THINGS THAT DON’T HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON ME

I went vegan for the animals and only for the animals.
But as I’ve educated myself over the years, I’ve learned that living vegan is a matter of justice.
.
.
It’s a matter of class justice.
It’s a matter of race justice.
It’s a matter of environmental justice.
It’s a matter of human justice as much as it is a matter of animal justice.
.
.
That’s why when people ask me if it’s hard, I almost can’t even comprehend the question.
.
.
Now before you judge that statement and use it as a reason to judge vegans, please understand that I don’t mean that in an egotistical way.
I’m just saying that at some point you realize it’s not about you.
But then you go a little deeper, and you realize that you actually benefit from the decision to give up animal products.
And then the only thought left is why you didn’t do it sooner.
.
.
The simple decision of what you choose to eat can single-handedly eliminate the suffering and slaughter of billions of innocent lives.
Not to mention, take down the cruelest industries and wealthiest people on the planet (just to be clear, I’m not against them because they’re wealthy, but just like people who have made their billions by making people sick - think tobacco industry - or by enslaving women, I’m against them because of the means they have chosen to come into that wealth)
.
.
Animal lives.
Human lives.
Mother Earth.
My health.
The degradation of this entire world ecosystem — all of it rests on what I choose to put in my mouth.
.
.
So yes, it’s about our human responsibility.
I don’t know why we’re so afraid of that word.
It feels good to be responsible.
It feels good to know I’m doing what I can to reduce the suffering on this planet.
It feels good to sleep with a clear conscience at night.
.
.
And yes, on a personal level, it feels good to know that I’ve slowed down the aging process.
It feels good to have a lot of energy.
it feels good to have clear skin and healthy intestines.
It feels good to put food in my mouth that I know came from the earth and not from someone who once had a heartbeat.
So it appeals to my self interest as much as it appeals to my desire to do good.

It matters to tell your story

MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE TODAY, I WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT IT MATTERS TO SPEAK YOUR TRUTH.

Today, as Duke and I spend our last official day in LA and I’m loading up the car and reflecting on the past 13+ months of not only fun and travel (which is most of what I’ve posted), but also the heartache, the mis-aligned relationships, the battles with my inner demons — there are a lot of emotions coming to the surface, so that they can be released and healed once and for all.
.
More than anything else today, I want to remind you that it matters to speak your truth. It matters to tell your story. It matters to speak for justice. It matters to speak up for those who have no voice. This is the only way for humanity to find our way back.
.
But it isn’t enough just to speak. We must also do the inner emotional work of releasing our bondage to the past. Because there is a world of difference between speaking from a place of love, versus speaking from a place of fear.
.
And Love is the only path through which we will return to our natural state of joy and well-being. By vibrating so high that everything which is not love simply falls out of our field. This is how we will create heaven on Earth.

WE DON’T ALWAYS HAVE TO SAY “SAME HERE”

TOTAL COMPASSION DOESN’T REQUIRE TOTAL UNDERSTANDING.

You can never truly know someone’s pain until you’ve walked in their shoes.

The funny this I’ve noticed, because we live in a culture where people are so quick to wanna relate to everyone since we’re so hungry for connection, we get more consumed with telling our own story than to just listening to somebody else’s.

And allowing it to be different from our own.
.
.
You don’t have to have the same experience as someone else in order to connect with them.
Luckily total compassion doesn’t require total understanding.

It just requires the humility to know that we can never completely understand.

And to be ok with that without minimizing the other’s experience.
And most importantly, without marginalizing them. .

Everything Happens Twice

EXPECT FOR “MIRACLES” TO HAPPEN

Everything happens twice. First in your mind. Then in reality. Your well-being. Your relationship. Your body. Your business. Your entire freaking life. It’s all a reflection of the thoughts you hold most frequently and your emotional response to those thoughts.

Don’t expect for it to happen overnight. But do expect for “miracles” to happen. When you give your attention to what you want. Instead of what supposedly “is”

You are literally the entire glorious universe in ecstatic motion. Do you even know that!!! So give yourself enough downtime each day to remember that. Do it as many times a day as possible. You can be, do, and have everything your heart desires.

But no matter what you do or don’t do while you’re here, remember that you are loved 🖤

PLANT JOURNEY: 9 Weeks Pass

Our thoughts are not all our own.

PERU 🇵🇪 It was 9 weeks ago today I went on my first plant medicine journey. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fully describe the underworlds I visited — places I’ve never seen before, not even in my worst nightmares — but here’s the thing I realized. They are all worlds that exist in me, and yet they aren’t actually mine. They weren’t created by me. Although they are a part of me.
In order to explain, I’ll share with you guys something that I shared with a client last night:

I consider myself a non-believer in many ways. I mean, sure, I believe in a power greater than myself, I believe in the Universe’s mystical ways and I believe in Mother Earth as an entity in her own right.

BUT... I didn’t grow up particularly religious, and the idea of a hell/heaven dichotomy after we die always humored me more than it frightened me.
That’s not to say that the plant medicine changed any of that. It didn’t.

During my first journey, I was in an underworld within underworlds that was full of darkness, with literally no light coming through (and I mean none) for nearly 6 hours.
But that wasn’t the interesting part.

I was in SO deep, that the Spirits actually said to me — in a voice as real and audible as if I were standing behind you in line at a Starbucks making small talk about the weather: “You’re in too deep. They’ll never be able to get you back, so stop trying. You’re never getting out of here. There is no escape. So you might as well turn and face it.” Of course what they were really telling me is that I had to turn and face myself.

I share this with you to make a point. Well there are many points I could make, but I’m just gonna make the one for now . . .
The power of our collective consciousness is undeniable.
Our thoughts are not all our own.
They are part of humanity’s thoughts.
Part of humanity’s hell.
Part of humanity’s darkness.
But the dark irony is that despite this, there is still no way out — not for any of us — but through.
The day will eventually come when each of us must face ourself.
Whether we do so with grace or via chaos, that is up to us.
Indeed it might be the only thing that is truly up to us in the end. ♥️ Tara x

PLANT JOURNEY

RESET & REWIRE.

.
Thanks to my @iamcoltonwinkelman for this one ❤️
.
.
I have to say, for over 2 weeks of no caffeine and only minimal amounts of sugar (only in the form of fruit and that’s only been the past 48 hours) I can’t remember the last time I needed such little sleep w/o the use of illicit substances. .
.
I’m talking 3 to 5 hours a night. Perfect example, I just woke up. It’s 6:22 AM right now The last time I saw before I went to bed was 2:27 AM.
.
.
I thought being vegan brought an increase of energy and clarity (and if you haven’t tried it for yourself yet, believe me it does) but add plant medicine to the mix and you’re operating on a whole other level. .
.
The plants out here in the Peruvian jungle can reset and rewire your entire system, and do so in a very short amount of time. That’s obviously not all they do, it’s just one of the unintentional side effects. Don’t get me wrong, it’s uncomfortable AF, but so worth it. .
⭐️
.
This was my last night at the retreat grounds. At 10 AM I get picked up and head to a beautiful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ hotel here in Cusco to spend another 1-2 days integrating before flying back home to California — oh how I have missed thee! It will be so weird to be back out in civilization after nearly 2 weeks of not leaving the grounds, except for a very short walk yesterday, but I didn’t get very far because my fur baby from here ended up following me.
.
PS – in case you’ve forgotten to stop and tell yourself lately, you’re doing great. Remember that the point isn’t to complete the process of life. It’s to live it. Besides, it can’t be completed anyway. The point is to enjoy it. To forgive (Self) more. To love (Self) more. And to be grateful. That’s the only thing we actually have control over in the end. .
.

the entrepreneurial journey

STOP FOCUSING ON ANYONE BUT YOURSELF

A few key points regarding the entrepreneurial journey, inspired by a chat I had with a client this morning:
.
1. Everything about this journey is a choice, including the decision to step fully into your power and create the life you want.
.
2. You will be tested along the way. There are things that will happen which will really challenge your faith, and that’s when it’s most important to remember that the only difference between those who create the life they want and those who don’t is that they don’t quit. Failure is literally not an option.
.
3. Once you do achieve any measure of success, don’t be afraid to share your results with the world. Why? Because that’s the only way for people to know where you’ve been and how far you’ve come, which ultimately determines your ability to make an impact on others. This is usually where most people who achieve any measure of success end up — aka they want to help others do the same.
.
I love you guys and hope you have a beautiful rest of the day, wherever you are in the world.

“Be careful what you ask for,” they say ...

WHO’S REALLY ASKING FOR THE LIFE YOU SAY YOU WANT

“Be careful what you ask for,” they say.

I never did understand that.

Be careful WHY?
Because you just might get it?
Isn’t that the whole point?
To get the things we ask for?

It may be subtle, but the fear-based message is still there. The msg that you can’t really trust yourself to even ask for the right things in life.

Maybe the updated wisdom parents can teach their kids is to question WHO is doing the asking.
Like seriously, the words might be coming out of YOUR mouth, but who’s really asking for that job?

That house?

That relationship with that ONE specific person?

Who’s really asking for the life you say you want (or are actually living)? Is it your parents?
Is it society?
Your husband?
Your wife?
Your ego?

Because if it isn’t truly you, if it’s not coming from the depths of your Soul, then even if you do achieve the so-called dream, it will be someone’s else’s life . . .

Someone else’s dream.

Are you playing at the highest level possible?

IS THIS THE CALLING I TRULY SEEK?
IS THIS THE PERSON I WANT TO BE?
IS THIS THE PATH THAT SETS ME FREE?
DOES A DEEPER TRUTH STILL LIE BURIED IN ME?

Are you playing at the highest level possible?
What version of yourself do you need to become in order to have everything you want?

What version of yourself has the business of your dreams?
The body and health of your dreams?
The relationship of your dreams? .

Who do you need to become to call these things in?
What does that version of you talk like, walk like, dress like?

How early does she wake up in the morning and what does she structure her days like?
What kind of foods does she eat?
How does she interact with people? How does she make people feel?

.
.
How does she speak to her partner? How does she FEEL about her partner? Remember that everything on the outside is a reflection of the inside.
There is no separation. .
.
.
In order to have what you want, you have to become the version of yourself that already has them.
If you were already that version now, you would already have everything you want. .
.
That’s the golden rule in life.
We get what we are a vibrational match for.
If we don’t have it, it’s because we’re not a vibrational match yet.
And that’s not always a bad thing. .
.
Especially when it comes to relationships.
If you’re not ready for the relationship of your dreams, it’s better that it not show up until you are ready.
The universe works in magical ways.
Be willing to ask.
Be willing to pray.
And have the humility and discipline to listen when the answers come through. .
.
Because often they will be subtle.
At least initially.
Don’t always look for something to hit you across the head.
Pay attention. Ask. Clarify. Create.
And above all else, you have to believe and trust that everything you want is available to you. .
.

JOURNEY INWARD — IF YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY…

STOP FOCUSING ON ANYONE BUT YOURSELF

1. If you don’t believe that thoughts become things, if you don’t believe that what you give your attention to grows, if you don’t believe that we are vibrational beings living in a vibrational universe, then the rest of this post will not only be meaningless to you, but it will probably annoy you. To everyone else, since you’re already on board, you’re probably already practicing being more disciplined with your thoughts — that’s a great thing! Which brings me to my next point. .

2. You have to get out of the trap of believing that your happiness is based what somebody else is or isn’t doing. It’s not other people who make us unhappy. It’s our expectations of other people that makes us unhappy. It’s OUR judgment about THEM that makes us unhappy. As long as you are at the mercy of other people behaving in a certain way, you will feel like a prisoner in your own life. .

3. But this prison is self-created, just like reality itself. Because people are fickle. No human being behaves consistently and according to our desires 100% of the time. And that’s OK, because we don’t either! We are fickle, too. .

4. When we lose sight of the bigger picture, we become unhappy. So we have to remember why we came. We have to remind ourselves that we did not come here to judge other people. We came here to do our own internal work, which is also the best way we can then contribute to the work of humanity. The work is first inside, then outside. And this cycle never ends. Within You is where the answers will always be. .

5. Every attempt you make to deviate from this truth will result in pain. Not because the universe wants to see you suffer. On the contrary. The universe is so loving and self-correcting, that She will never stop doing her job. .

She will never stop giving us the experiences we need in order to evolve and grow. Ultimately we are here to expand in consciousness. And whether we choose to go with grace or whether we go kicking + screaming, we will continue to move towards that white light one way or another.

To our collective growth,

Tara x

Two Myths About Relationships

Myth #1 Relationships can make you unhappy and cause you pain.

They can’t. They can only bring the pain that is already there to the surface, which in turn no doubt causes its own pain, but it’s not the original source.

Myth #2. Relationships can make you happy.

Myth #2. Relationships can make you happy. They can’t. They can only amplify the happiness that is already within you, which in turn also causes a new level of happiness between both of you. But if either person is lacking this basic level of peace and contentment on their own, this is super unlikely to happen.

What are your thoughts?!
